Issue
User is looking for clarity on how Red Canary calculates licensing usage as reported on the License Usage page in Red Canary Portal.
Environment
Red Canary Portal
Resolution
Details and FAQs on how Red Canary measures license usage and counts resources are detailed in the following documentation for the associated integration types.
- Endpoints & Networks Licensing and Usage (e.g. Defender for Endpoint, CrowdStrike, etc.)
- Identities Licensing and Usage (e.g. Okta, Entra ID, etc.)
- Cloud Control Plane Licensing and Usage (e.g. AWS, Azure, etc.)
- Email & Productivity Suites Licensing and Usage
- Security Data Lake Licensing and Usage
- Managed Phishing Response Licensing and Usage
Key Concepts
- If your organization has multiple subdomains, the License Usage page may display cumulative usage by aggregating counts and limits across all subdomains associated with your Customer Identifier.
- Whether or not an endpoint has been decommissioned in the Red Canary Portal does not affect how Endpoint licensing usage is calculated as described in the above documentation.
- Third-party platforms integrated with Red Canary may have their own criteria for calculating usage or active assets and, as a result, resource counts and licensing reported in those platforms may not be identical to the License Usage page in Red Canary Portal.
- The Impact Summary Report in Red Canary Portal is not expected to reflect License Usage counts as the report represents a rolling 30 days, rather than calendar month, and is based on Last Checkin timestamp.
Cause
Because documentation relating to Red Canary licensing is not maintained by Red Canary Support, please refer to docs.redcanary.com for licensing details.
