Issue
I need to setup MFA for my Red Canary User Account
Environment
Red Canary
Resolution
There are actually a few different ways to address this:
1. SIDE NOTE: When your User Account is created (i.e Your email address is invited to Red Canary), you will receive an email invite to your Red Canary. If you don't see this invite please check your spam inbox or spam filter. When you receive the email, we recommend copying the "Accept Invite" link and pasting it into a Chrome Incognito-Mode window and then going through the prompts. Once your account is activated, you will be automatically logged into your Red Canary Dashboard.
Once you are logged into your RC Dashboard, you will see a red bar at the top. On the top right next to your User icon, you'll see a button that says "Click to enable MFA!" Simply click this button and follow the prompts to setup your MFA. NOTE: We recommend using the Google Authenticator app.
2. If you do not see the red bar at the top of your RC dashboard, or if you just need to reconfigure your MFA settings, you can click on your User icon on the top right of the RC dashboard and select "View Profile." This will take you into the "Your Profile" settings page.
On the User Profile settings page, scroll down to the very bottom until you see the "Two Factor Authentication" section. Click on the link that says "Click here to show two factor authentication setup instructions."
NOTE: if you do not see the link, you will need to first enable MFA by checking the box "Required" under the Two Factor Authentication section. Then click Save. Once this is done, refresh your page and go back into the "Your Profile" settings page.
Once you click on the "Click here to show two factor authentication setup instructions" link, you will see the MFA QR Code. NOTE: We support "Authy," the "Google Authenticator App," and "Microsoft Authenticator," but we recommend the Google Authenticator App. You will need to download the Google Authenticator app to your mobile device and scan the QR Code. Once you scan the QR code there is nothing else you need to do (you don't need to click save). Your MFA is now setup and you should be able to login using the Google Authenticator app codes.
Try logging out and logging back in with your MFA code. If you are still having trouble, please open a Support Case and we will be happy to help you.
3. Lastly, if you are still having trouble setting up your MFA, you can go to the Red Canary Users & Roles page and disable MFA. NOTE: You won't be able to perform these next steps if you've never configured MFA.
To get to the Users & Roles page, click on your User Icon and select "Users & Roles."
In the Users & Roles page, find your User Account and select "Disable MFA." Once you click this, you will need to login again. This time you should see the red banner at the top to setup your MFA.
