"Long Term Support" for VMware Carbon Black EDR sensors

Issue

Under "End of Support" on the VMware Carbon Black EDR Supported Versions Grid, there is a note that says "Long Term Support". What exactly does this mean?

A sensor version will enter into "Long Term Support" when there is an operating system that is supported by that version that is considered "legacy". Per VMware Carbon Black's Product Lifecycle Policy:

Legacy OS Support

Carbon Black may elect, at its discretion, to maintain multiple sensors versions in Standard Support for a single platform to maintain support for legacy operating systems. The Legacy OS Support Version will receive maintenance releases for critical bug fixes, security vulnerabilities and OS currency at Carbon Black’s discretion.

Carbon Black evaluates the Lifecycle of each Legacy Support Version for sensors individually and so no overarching statement on support applies. However, Carbon Black will strive to provide at least 6-months notice prior to moving a Legacy OS Support Version to End of Support.

In this context, CentOS/RHEL 6.x is now considered legacy. If you have sensor version 6.3.4 installed on a currently supported version of Linux (CentOS/RHEL 7.x or above) then VMware will recommend upgrading to the latest supported version of the sensor prior to troubleshooting any issues that have been encountered.
