How Long Does It Take for a Sensor to Upgrade After It’s Requested?

Issue

Customer has endpoints that have been waiting to be upgraded via the VMware Carbon Black Cloud console for long periods of time.

Resolution

Sensor upgrades performed from the console can take up to four (4) hours to complete. The time is randomly set by the sensor. If more control for the upgrade is needed, please update through another method such as SCCM or GPO.

Additional Notes

There are three ways to update sensors:

• You can update sensors on selected endpoints through the console. You can update 10,000 sensors at a time, 200 happening concurrently. The updates occur over a four-hour window. After you initiate sensor updates, the selected sensors receive the message to update the next time that they check in with the back-end.
• You can update a sensor by double-clicking the new installer package, by issuing a command on the command line (msiexec), or by pushing the command line script through a tool like SCCM. Standard command line options are applicable. Note that the command line options from the first install persist across upgrades.
• A reinstall the sensors by using any method that is described in Installing sensors.
